What ARAS can assist with
ARAS can provide information and advocacy support about a range of residential aged care matters, including:
- care and services;
- communication with aged care providers;
- involvement in decisions about care;
- rights, choice and decision-making;
- concerns about quality or safety of care;
- feedback and complaints;
- accessing information about aged care services;
- understanding options and possible strategies for resolving concerns; and
- transitions between hospital, home and residential aged care where there are concerns, delays or barriers affecting access to appropriate aged care services and supports.
Financial Advocacy Support
ARAS also provides a specialist Financial Advocacy service to support older people with financial matters relating to residential aged care.
Financial Advocates can support older people to:
- understand residential aged care fees, charges and costs;
- understand residential aged care statements, invoices and bills;
- identify unexpected charges, discrepancies or possible billing errors;
- understand financial information when considering a move into residential aged care;
- liaise with Services Australia and aged care providers about aged care fees and charges;
- understand financial hardship options and receive support to complete financial hardship applications; and
- raise and work towards resolving concerns or disputes about aged care fees and charges.
